Make Time

Bringing a dog into your life means a commitment of time, energy, and money. But I think the one that we fail with the most is time.

Things have certainly changed over the years. Many of us are working full-time jobs, some even do more and just do not have the luxury of time. This leaves us feeling exhausted when we get home. We have been out all day, we’re hungry, tired, overstimulated, and ready to plop on the couch the moment we take off our shoes.

But guess who isn’t tired and overstimulated? Guess who is excited to see you the second you walk through that door because they have been home for hours waiting for your return, waiting for your interaction, waiting for you to relieve them of the boredom they must endure while you are gone?

Yup! Your dog.

Put yourself in your dog’s shoes. Imagine being stuck inside of your home for 24 hours 7 days a week. Nothing exciting going on. No fun adventures. Just the same old house day after day. You would go a little crazy. It’s no wonder they get extremely bored and find ways to entertain themselves by digging, chewing, and barking. I mean, there’s nothing else to do, right!?

So remember, the next time you come home from work and you are absolutely exhausted think about your dog and how boring it has been for them while you have been gone and find ways to give them some of your time so you can be the highlight of their day.

And if you cannot muster up the energy and motivation to do this with your dog then perhaps you should think twice about owning a dog.
