Place Stay

This is not an exact template, but it’s a good place to start. It’s important for you as the dog handler to know when you need to move forward and when you need to slow down.

After each step, you should be rewarding your dog.

It’s also equally important to be releasing your dog off of the cot so they can solidify their understanding that they cannot get off until you have given a release word. I usually use the word “free” or “OK”.

It’s just as important to note that you must be prepared for your dog to break place at times as they are just learning-this is a completely normal part of the process. All you do is simply put them back on place but do not reward them once they are back on as you do not want to build value in breaking. Instead wait a few seconds and then reward.
