Bathing

This is not an exact template for every dog. It is important that you as a handler understand when you have to break steps down even further or when you can move along quicker. Some of the steps you might need to spend more time on and some of them you might be able to spend less time on. But this can give you a good idea of how to start.

For each step, your dog should be rewarded, and you should be practicing each step over and over until your dog is able to do each thing cooperatively or willingly.

It is possible that you may be able to go all the way through every step the very first session and go straight to bathing. But it is also possible that you might not be able to. But this should be practiced more than just one time. Even if your session is successful the first time, it doesn’t mean you can go straight to bathing the second time. You will have to start back at the beginning but you’ll notice that you won’t have to spend as much time on the beginning steps.

However, if you are having difficulty breaking steps down further or speeding up, feel free to reach out to me and I’d be happy to guide you.

Also, it’s important to note that warm water should be used and you should never expect your dog to be OK with you dousing them with cold water.
