If you aren’t ready to go fully raw, or change your dog’s kibble, that is OK!
Studies show that just replacing 10-20% of your dog’s Kibble with fresh foods can have a beneficial impact on their health. You can either add this directly to their meal time or you can use this as daily treats! But what kind of food should we be using?
Here are some ideas; feel free to comment with things you add that may or may not be on this list!
Fresh Fruits & Vegetables such as: berries, carrots, brussel sprouts, bell peppers, pineapple, cucumbers, spinach, kale, mushrooms (the ones that are safe for humans),cherries, plums, pomegranates, apples, pears, citrus fruits, celery, broccoli, apples, green beans, green bananas (not as high in sugar as yellow) These can be fed raw or cooked/steamed. Some suggest cooked for veggies as it may be easier to digest.
Even parsley, turmeric, rosemary, cilantro, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, fennel are considered safe for our dogs as well.
Some other things you can add are: Sardines, herring, chicken, turkey, quail, lamb, beef, bison, rabbit, eggs(raw or cooked) and organ meats like- liver, kidney, tribe, tongue, spleen, pancreas and heart.
Some dogs may need a slow transition, so take your time and add things in slowly.
When it comes to raw meats, some dogs can find it difficult, especially due to the texture. For my Doberman, ground beef was something that he took to immediately but when it came to raw chicken he turned his nose up. I tried cutting it into super tiny pieces and mixing it in his kibble with plain Greek yogurt.
It is always important to have a discussion about this with your vet to make sure that your dog does not have any limitations.
If you would like a more extensive list or detailed information of how each food can benefit your dog, I suggest your read “The Forever Dog” by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Shaw Becker.
The quality of these dog treats is second to none. I feel so good knowing I’m feeding my dog 100% grass fed beef! He deserves only the best and Patriot Pup delivers!
