Balanced Training

I am a balanced trainer. I like tools. Prongs, E collars, slip leads, harnesses, leashes, flat collars, treats, pouches, long leads etc. I like them all. I use them for different reasons. And I use them only when needed.

They’re tools, they make life easier, they make things go faster. Tools are an amazing part of technology. But they’re only effective if you use them correctly.

I also use a dremel on my dogs’ nails instead of filing them manually, because once again it’s a tool and it makes life easier. Is it possible I can hurt my dog using a dremel if I’m not careful, absolutely, but do we still use it, yes!

But the important thing to note here is that I use them all appropriately. I have found ways to educate myself on the proper functions of each tool.

Tools make our lives easier.

Sometimes they are needed, sometimes they are not.

Some dogs need them, some dogs don’t.

Some humans need them, some humans don’t.

Being a balanced trainer does not mean we are out there correcting, hurting and punishing our dogs all day long.

But we understand that sometimes there are dogs that need a little extra motivation to comply.

Just as humans do.

I don’t know about you but I probably would be speeding a whole lot more on the roads if it wasn’t for those tickets cops like to hand out. And because of that possible punishment, I keep everybody else around me safe.

But like any tool, you must be educated on how to use it and you most certainly must be educated and experienced with a tool before you develop and share your opinion on it.
