OK OK OK-I love petting dogs as much as the next person, especially my own. But why is it that so many people think that petting a dog is doing the dog a favor?
Let’s be honest here, petting is for the human. It releases endorphins and makes us feel good. And the more we do it, the better we feel.
Nobody looks at the dog and says, “Wow, I think that dog really would like for me to pet him”. Instead, we think, “that dog is cute, must touch”. The act of running our hand down their fur just does something to us internally.
Some dogs do enjoy it, some dogs tolerate it, and some dogs absolutely despise it-this can also depend on who is doing the petting.
If it’s not your dog, think twice before you approach.
