A Good Handler

How do you know if you’re being a good handler, does it mean that your dog is perfect and doing everything right?

Not really. What it means is that you’re reflective in your practices and you know that you play a huge role in your dog’s success.

We are so quick to blame our dogs for any one of their behaviors such as making statements like; “my dog pulls on his leash”, or “my dog never listens to me”, or even “my dog chews up my furniture”.

Where is the handler’s role in any of those statements? We’re not being good handlers when we leave ourselves out of those problems but instead blame it all on the dog.

A good handler is able to be honest enough to judge their own role in their dog’s behavior, both good and bad.

So be reflective in everything you do and accept your flaws. Lord knows I have many!
