The object of this game is to use your “gaze” to show your dog where the treat is.

All you will need are treats for this activity.

Clasp one of the treats in your hand. Put your dog in a sit stay. Kneel down in front of your dog with enough space to spread your arms out-just like you see me doing in the photo.

Then spread your arms out and look towards the hand that has the treat. Give your dog the signal/command to go and get the treat. I like to use the verbal cue, “get it”.

Keep your gaze towards that hand. If your dog goes to that hand, mark and release the treat and praise him.

If he does not, be patient and try again. Your dog may need a little bit of assistance in the beginning. You might try things like calling their name, showing them the treat then clasping your hand again, pointing to that hand-modify however you need to-there is no wrong or right way-you can slowly take away those modifications as your dog starts to figure out what you’re asking. I would use the same hand over and over until you can tell your dog has figured it out. Then go to the other hand and start from the beginning again.

It took my dogs a good minute to grasp this but once they did it was a lot of fun!
