Curtains

You will need two chairs with backs, a pole, such as from a broom or a mop, some string and some other recyclable items such as: soda cans or bottles, newspaper strips, fabric strips, paper towel rolls, cardboard strips, old CDs, etc.

Rinse out the recyclables that may have once contained food. Attach them to string and tie onto the pole so that they are hanging down like a curtain. In the photo, I used grocery bags instead of string. Use whatever you have available at home!

Hang the pole with the items attached over the back of two chairs. Encourage your dog to go through the curtain and then mark and reward when he does.

You know your dog best, so here are some ways that you can modify if you feel that your dog would not be willing to go through this curtain:
-try quiet items first
-limit the amount of items you put and add on as you go
-start with pushing the items to the side (like curtains) and have your dog do through, closing the curtains little by little each time.

You may even reward your dog just for going up to the curtain and then for sticking his nose through, and then for putting his head through, then a paw etc. Go at his pace, this is meant to be fun and exploratory for both you and your dog, so don’t rush it.

See “my story” or the Enrichment highlight for some videos of how my dogs did with this.

Reach out if you have questions or your dog is struggling and your not sure how to modify!
