Be Flexible

Dog trainers have to be flexible.
There is no one way that works for every dog. This is why trainers often struggle with those that ask for advice. We can give you a basic template that we may start with but with every dog we have to modify that template. Part of being a dog trainer is knowing exactly how to modify; whether you should speed up or you should slow down; understanding how to break steps down into smaller steps. This is where many dog owners would struggle. That’s the tricky part of the process that involves a lot of problem-solving skills. We cannot get stuck in one system or one method or even one tool. It’s important to focus on the needs and temperament of that individual dog and what will help that particular dog learn best.

So don’t compare your dog to your past dogs and don’t assume your previous methods will work- you must modify your approach to the particular personality of the dog in front of you.
